Every human deserves to be empowered.
The world can be a tough place.
We all have our struggles – people who don’t listen or respect us, a body that doesn’t function as it should, a society that assumes our place within it.
Many of us feel powerless to change our lives.
We feel overwhelmed by bullies, by an endless list of conflicting expectations, by a world that is constantly changing the rules on us.
But what if we created our own world, made our own rules and simply chose to live with love?
One day, I realised I was living in someone else’s world. I had been working my ass off as a journalist, for a company that didn’t care about me. I would spend my days writing stories that I was sure would change the world.
“If people only knew how bad this was, how sad this was, how unjust and petty and corrupt this was, then things would change.”
But things never changed – just the story did.
Life was an endless stream of car crashes and cruelty. I was working tough shifts and getting paid very little. I would ruin my hair in an attempt to make it “professional” and check my clothes to ensure they were inoffensive.
I was living my life for everyone else. And from the outside, I was “succeeding”.
But I wasn’t happy.
I dreamt of far away places, being my own boss and wearing noisy bangles.
I wanted to build a life I was proud of – not be the shell of someone else’s ideal.
One night, after working the late shift on a particularly historic day, I found myself in tears.
The world was never going to change.
I was never going to be able to convince people to stop being cruel, prejudice, selfish… I was never going to crush the corrupt economic systems and fix injustice. I could never change the world.
But I could change my world.
So I got to work on doing just that.
I started experimenting with my body to see what felt good, both inside and out. I took a chance and met a man whose ideal life looked like my own. I built 2 online businesses from scratch and travelled the world full time for 2 years. I decided what I would accept and what I wouldn’t in my own world and started living by those principles.
I went from being exhausted and unfulfilled to living my ideal life in under a year. I was finally happy and understood what it meant to live a life by design.
Being a half-Egyptian, half-English witch and having spent my youth in London and my 20s in New Zealand, I don’t feel like I have a “home”.
I’ve travelled all over the world and realised that people eat, shop and sleep everywhere, so it didn’t much matter where we ended up.
My home is where I make it.
So in 2019, when we’d seen plenty of the world, we decided make Christchurch our home, complete with fur babies, plants and projects. And I couldn’t be happier.
I continue to make and sell beautiful things that help enrich people’s lives.
But I saw a lack of love-infused altar tools, potions and talismans in New Zealand, so decided to offer up parts of my magick to other people in need of a boost.
